The event previously known as matteela film festival showed the best documentaries from all over South Asia, and Talking Faith was one of them.

Talking Faith was screened at Vasakh on 24 April at Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) Auditorium in Lahore, Pakistan. The evening commenced with a note from the organiser, and as the festival gained momentum, it managed to gather quite a number of audiences.

Talking Faith engaged the viewers and received astounding ovation from the spectators. The success of Talking Faith was how it reflected the issue of interreligious dialogue and diversity of Lahore, whilst telling the personal stories of individuals. Details about the festival and film’s listing can be read at Dawn.

Talking Faith was screened at Foreign Correspondence Club of Thailand (FCCT) on 5 February, 2008 in Bangkok. For five decades, the Foreign Correspondence Club of Thailand has played a vital role being Southeast Asia’s most active press club. The club advocates press freedom as a cornerstone of civil society in emerging democracies and is a vital venue for an open exchange of information. In FCCT’s Contemporary World Cinema Series several feature and documentary films on varied social and political issues had been screened. Talking Faith would be one of them, providing an insight into interreligious dialogue in post 9/11 Pakistan.

One of the oldest churches, the Plymouth Church in Seattle commented on Talking Faith to be an ‘extraordinary’ film exploring the interfaith issues in a completely non western way. It says in its newsletter, “Talking Faith consists of a free spirited series of conversations among Pakistani Christian and Muslim students. Their candid and often passionate points of view provide a unique window into Christian and Muslim faith issues completely outside a western cultural context. In several instances students point out that religious differences are typically overstated for the sake of furthering cultural and political points of view. In viewing this film we learn how deeply cultural traditions and social customs can affect the religious perceptions of Christians and Muslims outside our familiar western tradition.” It also said that ISAFF which is premiering Talking Faith “involves audience not just with the works presented, but also in discussions that treat the social, political, personal and international issues raised by those works.” The complete review can be read here on Plymouth Church Newsletter.

In order to make this documentary more widely accessible, today we have made available new ways to watch it.

First of all, you can watch the film in its full length (31 min) directly in your web browser. The same way we had those 4 short clips, now we also have the complete movie. Click here to watch.

Second, but not last, we have two new downloadable versions of Talking Faith: 55MB and 100MB. You can go to our download section and check it out! These two files are stored in a different server, so you will have to follow their instructions and limitations. You may have to wait a couple of seconds (there will be a countdown) before the download starts. You will also be asked to type in a verification code. The two files are compressed, so the quality will not be like in a DVD.
